Weight Loss Plans-How to Use Affirmations To Enhance Your 2011 Weight Loss Goals

We’ve all heard of the power of affirmations for generating life-changing events, the incredible power of words, especially words we say to ourselves in our minds. These can change a bad situation into a positive one, can give us motivation, and can provide the courage to stay on a new path to success. Effective weight loss plans can be greatly enhanced by using these positive statements. What a great idea to get your dieting plans off to a good start in the New Year!

Living with extra pounds, especially since childhood, can be a disheartening experience. Self-esteem sinks with every negative and hurtful comment overheard and every disapproving glance. You may try to shrug it off saying you have been overly sensitive to negative responses to your weight, but they still had a damaging psychological effect.

The loss of self-esteem leads to self-defeating internal talk. You may think you don’t really deserve to be slimmer and more attractive, after all, you’ve suffered such negative input over the years, maybe you really aren’t a deserving person; maybe it’s a punishment for having weak willpower. Whatever others have said or done, we tend to be even harder on ourselves. All the negativity has been internalized and starts playing back in the mind as discouraging self-talk. And, there are no limits to the negative talk we hear in our own minds. All of it is a roadblock to successful weight loss, a drag on motivation, and a stumbling block to dropping that excess belly fat.

What can be done to reverse the damage and give a boost to self-esteem? Affirmations! We are told over and over that our mental and physical health go hand-in-hand, and they do. Changing negative patterns of thinking into positive ones can be the ticket to success.

Start slowly, pick one affirmation and repeat it throughout the day. Say it the first thing when you wake up, repeat it as you go to sleep at night. Say it several times out loud and with feeling while looking yourself in the eyes in the mirror. Say it silently at work, in the car, whereever you are until it becomes a habit, a new way of thinking.

One of the most powerful affirmations is simply “ I confirm that I am worthy of good health and success.” Say this repeatidly, every single day. A similar affirmation that you may like is “I choose to be as healthy as I can be.” We all know that optimal weight leads to better health, and eating truly healthy foods speeds weight loss. Without dwelling on calories, pounds, weight, or specific weight loss plans, you are confirming that a deep change will occur, speeding both increased health and decreased weight.

The more you repeat your affirmations, the more in control you become of your own health and weight. Adding “I am in control of my health and weight” can be used along with the other affirmations if you are still feeling discouraged.

Start this New Year out strong, committed, and positive with the help of affirmations.
